Christmas 2020

Sometime before we took the trampoline down, it snowed. I think this was the last time it has snowed.
Oh brothers.....

For the first time ever I made candied pecans. They were actually really easy to make and smelled so good while they were baking. I made a second batch on Christmas Eve Eve.
Speaking of Christmas Eve Eve, what's funny is that my kids get almost as excited for this day as they do Christmas Eve and Christmas.
We had beef shortribs, mashed potatoes and gravy, pretzel Jello, and green beans.

For dessert we had kiss cookies that I smushed down while the kisses were melting and they turned out like this which made it easier to eat without a poky kiss stabbing in your nose.
After our Come Follow Me lesson about Book of Mormon prophecies of Jesus's birth, the kids opened their new pajamas.

Christmas Eve we dragged took the kids to the art museum. They had a Christmas scavenger hunt for kids and I wanted to show them where Justin and I had our wedding reception.

I don't know if my kids enjoyed any of the art and judging how I had to take the boys outside early for fighting, I'd say the outing was tolerable for them and sometimes pleasant for me.

Later we frosted sugar cookies which my kids think is super fun and I think are super delicious.

After all 39 cookies were frosted, we watched Home Alone 2 and then went to my mom and dad's for dinner and fun.

Isn't James the cutest angel? He held this pose for so long.
And then the fishing pole game. "What's Christmas Eve without the fishing pole game?" says Sarah.

Sarah and Allison got light-up masks.
James got some awesome Lego guys.
But the fun didn't stop there. Clint's sister sent him a bunch of  food from Japan which we tasted and mostly didn't like.

That night, Santa came!
Henry thought he was clever and created a trip-wire to try to catch Santa. Santa was clever and didn't even cross the wire.
Here are some present-opening shenanigans.

Sarah's favorite gift was a quarter collecting map. Henry and James got remote control cars, Erica got a Princess Tiana doll to go with her other Magiclip dolls.
Then my parents came over to see what the kids opened and eat ebelskivers for breakfast. Then I made my dad tell lots of stories about his parents.
Justin and I made a fort kit out of pvc pipes so while we were cooking breakfast they started building a fort downstairs.
Later that day we went to Justin's parents house to open presents with them and eat prime rib for dinner.

Sarah got a camera, Henry a BYU hoodie, Erica got a robot dog, and James got a Batmobile. I got a cake stand and rolling pin and Justin got air mattresses and a giftcard to Bombay House.
That evening my family got together on an epic zoom call. We talked about how we celebrated Christmas and the kids showed everyone what they got for Christmas.

It was fun to see them but I left the call feeling sad that it's been too long since I've seen so many of them in person.
